What punishment will the NBA give Ja Morant?

If you saw Ja Morant trending on Twitter last week and were confused as to why he was a topic of discussion, I’m here to tell you that the news was nowhere near positive. Essentially, NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, informed the media that Morant’s punishment for his off-the-court shenanigans would be severe. According to Silver, the NBA “uncovered a fair amount of additional information since I was last asked about the situation. We probably could have brought it to a head now, but we made the decision — and I believe the Players Association agrees with us — that it would be unfair to these players and these teams in the middle of this series to announce the results of that investigation.”

In case you weren’t aware, Ja Morant was caught flashing a gun on Instagram live for the second time this season. Back in March, Morant decided to visit the strip club after the Grizzlies’ 113-97 road loss to the Nuggets and make an immature decision in the process. For whatever reason, the two-time All-Star felt the need to hop on social media and show the world that he was in possession of a deadly weapon. Twelve days after the incident, the NBA announced that Morant would face an 8-game suspension with no pay. Although he completed a counseling program and made it seem as though he was “cured” shortly after, Morant returned to the NBA headlines in May. This time around, Morant’s childhood friend, Davonte Pack, hosted an Instagram live while sitting next to Morant in a parked vehicle. As soon as Pack placed the camera on Morant, his viewers got an opportunity to see the Grizzlies star display a gun once again on the internet. Pack quickly turned the camera away from Morant in a last second attempt to save him, but the damage had already been done at that point.

So, what do I think Ja Morant’s punishment will be in mid/late-June? Well, I believe that Morant could miss a year of professional basketball action if my hunch is correct. It may be harsh to some, but it’ll send a powerful message to not only Morant, but also the rest of the league. If you’re unable to stay out of trouble away from the court, then you should expect to be disciplined accordingly by the NBA. Sure, you can certainly have fun during your free time, but you should refrain from making irrational choices that could potentially jeopardize your future in the sport. Before the end of the month, I’m sure that message will have minimal issues reaching its intended target.
