Four months after suffering cardiac arrest during a USC practice in July, Bronny James has finally been cleared to return to the hardwood. According to a spokesperson from the James family, “Bronny James is now cleared by his doctors for a full return to basketball. Bronny will have a final evaluation with USC staff this week, resume practice next week, and return to games soon after. The James family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible medical team, the entire USC community, and especially the countless friends, family, and fans for their love and support.”
The former five-star recruit was set to have an exciting freshman season with the Trojans before experiencing an unfortunate setback during the summer. A few days after the incident occurred, Lebron tweeted that “I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers. We feel you and I’m so grateful. Everyone doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we’re ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us.”
USC is off to a solid 6-2 start to the 2023-24 college basketball season, but the Trojans could certainly use James’ playmaking/facilitating ability from the point guard position. James can also function as an off-ball threat and allow Boogie Ellis to run the show while the backcourt mates are on the floor together. Although James probably won’t be available for USC’s upcoming contest against Gonzaga in Las Vegas, it’s tremendous to hear that James will get an opportunity to contribute for the Trojans in Year 1.
